Unique experience at St John's Smith Square

Louisa Beard • 20 September 2018

Last Saturday I had the pleasure to sing in one of the best concert halls in London, St John's Smith Square. The acoustics were marvellous and I felt like I could express each piece with a rich palette of colours and nuances... the voice flowed effortlessly and together with the warm tone of the wonderful Steinway Grand Piano Model D it was bliss.

The ultimate satisfaction, receiving positive feedback from the client after this exclusive event: "...We all had such a wonderful time...it truly was exceptional...you were so kind and thoughtful to Emma's needs and your voice was like an angel..."

It was a privilege to wear 'Twists of Light' beautiful earrings, "pieces of art that you can wear" (18ct gold, 48 diamonds, yellow sapphires, tsavorites) from Bykovs' Jewellery in Knightsbridge.

As I explore the songs of The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár, I find it refreshing to sing about love in such a beautiful and uplifting way. From “Vilia, O Vilia” in which a handsome huntsman falls under the spell of a fair mountain sprite, to the romantic and elegant “Unspoken Love,” with its memorable sentiment that “the world is in love with love, and I love you,” these songs capture the charm and optimism that make operetta so enduring. The operetta repertoire presents different challenges from opera. It requires a lighter vocal approach while still conveying emotional depth, elegance, and sincerity. A timeless gem, that will delight audiences of all ages and offers music that can be enjoyed by family and friends alike.
